JC - 2018 Young Alumnus of the Year

Congratulations to J.C. Metivier for being selected as the 2018 Young Alumnus of the Year!

J.C. Metivier received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine in 2009. He is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist (COMT) through IMPACT under the tutelage of Jim Meadows, BScPT, MCPA, FCAMT. He also recently became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT) under the mentorship of Josh Renzi, PT, MPT, COMT, FAAOMPT class of '98. J.C. has worked in outpatient orthopedics since graduating a majority of which has been at Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Center in Timonium. He enjoys working with difficult cases, as well as working with athletes of all ages. J.C. was a Division I lacrosse player in college and is still involved with coaching. He also likes to design athlete-specific programs aimed at a return to safe play. He also has been a clinical instructor for students from the University of Maryland for several years. His Fellowship project was focused on manual therapy intervention directed at the thoracic spine for the management of shoulder impingement syndrome. Additionally, he has an interest in working with post-concussive syndrome patients using both manual therapy and vestibular rehabilitation. Outside of the clinic, J.C. enjoys cycling, playing all types of recreational sports, and also spending time with his wife Rachel and their two children Macie and Sebastian.

The Alumni and Young Alumni of the Year Awards are given to recognize a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) program who has accomplished outstanding achievements in the physical therapy profession. The award is based on contributions and successes in the areas of academics, administration, clinical practice, research, community service, professional associations, and involvement at PTRS.  For the Young Alumni of the Year award, candidates must have graduated between the years of 2008-2018.
